Space, the final frontier: Our first look at the brand new Starlux Galactic lounge in Taipei

The opening of Starlux’s second lounge at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport has caught the attention of travel enthusiasts and Star Trek fans alike. The lounge, known as the Galactic Lounge, boasts a futuristic design that would not be out of place on the Starship Enterprise. As a recent visitor to the lounge, I can confidently say that it exceeded my expectations in terms of both style and amenities.

To gain access to the Galactic Lounge, you must either be a top-tier Starlux elite member or hold a first class or business class ticket on Starlux. Those with Starlux’s Cosmile Explorer or Insighter status can also access the lounge when flying on the same day. Unfortunately, the lounge does not accept Priority Pass or any other club program passes. The lounge is open from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. each day.

The lounge is divided into two floors, with the main level offering a spacious seating area adorned with bright yellow accents. The design of the lounge is sleek and modern, with gray interiors and pops of yellow to create a futuristic atmosphere. The seating area is well-equipped with plenty of chairs and padded benches, as well as ample outlets for charging devices.

One of the standout features of the lounge is the restroom area, which includes sliding doors that make a swooshing sound when opened, reminiscent of the doors on a Star Trek vessel. The toilets in the restroom are automatic and touchless, featuring bidet toilets by Toto. The amenities in the restroom are provided by a natural beauty company called Thann and are branded as Eden Breeze. While the amenities are not particularly futuristic, they are fresh and pleasant.

Downstairs, there is another level of seating along with shower facilities. The lounge also has complimentary Wi-Fi, which was of decent quality during my visit. The service provided by the staff was exceptional, with employees going above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction. Dirty dishes were promptly cleared, and food orders were delivered quickly and with a smile.

Speaking of food, the Galactic Lounge offers a wide selection of both hot and cold dishes. Guests can order a la carte from a QR code menu, which is convenient and efficient. The hot dishes include options such as shredded chicken, beef sukiyaki, gua bao, and Japanese-style tofu burger. The buffet area is impressive, featuring a variety of hot and cold items, desserts, salads, and other dishes. There are also plenty of drink options, including soft drinks, teas, juices, and a selection of alcoholic beverages.

Overall, the Starlux Galactic Lounge is a must-visit for any Starlux elite member or business/first class passenger. The lounge’s futuristic design, spacious seating areas, excellent service, and diverse food and drink offerings make it a standout among airport lounges. Whether you’re a Star Trek fan or simply appreciate sleek and modern design, the Galactic Lounge is sure to impress.
